biography

Sawako is a Tokyo/NYC-based sound sculptor and time based artist whose work explores the formal, physical, and sensory qualities of sound. Once through the processor named Sawako, sounds in everyday life – field recordings, instruments, voice and electronic sounds – float in space vividly with a digital yet organic texture. Sawako has released solo works on and/OAR and 12k, and has collaborated with a wide range of artists including Andrew Deutsch, Jacob Kirkegaard, Asuna, RF, Taku Sugimoto, Toshimaru Nakamura, and Taylor Deupree. Her activities have been reviewed internationally by the Wire (UK), Improvised Music From Japan (Japan), Debug (Germany), Blow Up (Italy), e/i magazine (USA), and NYArts (USA), among others. She has performed at venues including Tonic and Diapason (USA), offsite and the Apple Store (Japan), Batofar (France), and Resonance FM (UK).
