Site Surface

(Image 1) This image shows a bird’s eye view of the proposed site surface looking southeast. The project proposed is an infill condition and places the building almost entirely underground. The surface is then used as a park space connecting an existing residential laneway from Spadina Ave on the east to St. Patrick St. and Kensington Ave to the west.

(Image 2) This image shows a detail of one of the sound columns located in the park above the building. These columns are part of a sound making strategy that would allow occupants contribute to the local soundscape within the park environment. The columns are electronic instruments equipped with contact sensors that pickup vibrations when a user touches the surface. Lights at the top of the columns also illuminate the park at night forming part of a visual composition. It is intended that the entire system of columns can be programmed to make a certain range of sounds at specific locations allowing for a random composition to emerge when the park is inhabited and the columns are simultaneously engaged.
