TIND's work is based on the use of audio visual errors, both analog & digital, so for this project we decided to use a special tool.
These videos are composed of live footage created with a homemade video glitcher that distort video & audio signal analogically. The video glitcher is a project commissionned by TIND and was made by Karl Klomp, a well known circuit bending artist from Europe. The original footage was edited in Final Cut and then played through the video glitcher and mixed with a V4 video mixer. This newly created footage was also recorded and then put again in finalcut for the creation of the 2 videos. The 16mm film texture was made by Montreal artist Eloi Ménard, who's a close contributor of TIND.
The soundtracks was almost made the same way except that a lot of sound work was done in Soundtrack Pro. The sound from trame 002 is made with samples from a track by Montreal artist Sebastien Gravel (from the band Perfection Plastic).
There's no real concept behind trame001 & 002 - this is pure audio visual experimentation without any concepts or limits, a little bit like when we do a DJ/VJ jam session.

Francis Theberge is the founding member and president of the non-profit art group TIND (thisisnotdesign).
After graduating in design from the Université du Québec à Montréal, he started to create video art especially for the Derapage festivals held at the university. After participating and winning a grant at the Vidéaste Recherché in Quebec, he participated in numerous international festivals. His style is composed of experimental video work using film scratching, manupulation of video errors (glitches) that we find in compression, analog and digital video signals. He concentrate his work on the rhyhthmic link between the images and the music thus creating very energetic compositions full of contrastes. Recently he started to add his own sound creation to his video work and a new group under TIND is now born : THISISNOTMUSIC (TINM).
He specializes in video creation, live performances (Vjing), installation, DJing and audio visual experimentation. He is also involved in cultural events and video festivals in Montreal.
